The Laurel Hills district has recently re-scheduled their Fall Camporee to fall on the same weekend as the October OA weekend (October 18-20, 2013). The LH Camporee will be held at Fort Ligonier. They were forced into re-scheduling for that weekend because it is the only weekend that the fort was available.
The OA weekend will still proceed as scheduled. We’ve had our event on the council calendar for 2 years now. Just like Laurel Hills, this is the only weekend that is available to us. And we have a lot of work to do to shut down the camp for the winter. Also: great activities, food, ceremonies, and of course, officer elections.
It will be up to each unit to decide what they want to do: Send all their members to the camporee, or allow their older scouts to attend the OA weekend. A scout’s first responsibility is always to their unit. So, if your unit needs you to be at the camporee, we understand.
Please keep in mind that if you are on the LEC and are unable to attend any OA weekend, it is still your job to see that all your responsibilities are covered in your absence. It is not the chairman’s job to do everything. But it is the chairman’s responsibility to make sure that everything gets done.
For those of you that are available to attend the service weekend, I hope that you do consider coming up, even if only during the day. We will have a lot of work to be done, and we will be many people down. All help is appreciated.
We wish Laurel Hills district well, and hope that the Westmoreland-Fayette Council has two spectacular events that weekend!
